I’ve long agreed with the adage, “Our body is our temple.” Lately, I’ve been treating it more like the Temple of Doom. This month, it’s time to put the former into practice, and regain some balance in my life.

I love the idea of New Year’s resolutions, but I’ve often avoided using the term. It has become so cliché. The whole setting a resolution and forgetting it a month or two later thing turned me off. In truth, resolution is just a fancy word for a goal, and setting goals around the new year is actually a great time to put them into practice. The holidays are behind us, so we’re (hopefully) refreshed from some extra time off with friends and/or family. What better time to take charge of our lives?
Personally, I’ve been trying to balance and right-size my life over the past few months. My time off around the holidays allowed me some much-needed introspection. Outside of organizing my apartment, work office, and storages (at both locations), I also thought a lot about my physical, mental, and emotional health.
Physically, I started the year off strong, but stopped going to the gym half way through. My partner and I were eating out a lot, and I was putting a lot of negative foods in my body, namely sweets and other processed snacks. Outside of parts of my workday, I wasn’t getting much exercise either, though I knew none of this would lead me to a better or happier place. Until I hit that rock bottom, where I said, “Enough is enough!”, though, I continued indulging and ignoring my health.
Coming into the holiday, my partner and I agreed we both needed to make some changes to our physical beings. We decided it was time to go back to the gym and eat healthier, so we had one final rough night out at our local bar the Saturday before Christmas Eve, made a lovely Christmas dinner, and finished off the year with a fabulous Charcuterie plate and some fancy drinks! Then we awoke New Year’s Day, bloated and haggard, and started on our journey. We returned to the gym and we’ve cut added sugars & alcohol until we get our bodies back under control.
That’s the thing about balance. We strive for it, but sometimes we teeter over the edge, one way or the other, if we don’t check in with ourselves regularly. Besides adjusting my physical self, I’ll be doing this more regularly mentally and emotionally too.
Oh, and if you’ve visited me here before, you may notice an updated site appearance! I figured I’d start the year off right with my blog and get it ready to post more frequently. I updated my “About Me” Page in honor of this update: https://thewockaspot.com/about-the-wocka-spot-2/ It has been a long time coming, and I miss writing. It’s time to put the negative situations and excuses behind me and take control of my life again.
P.S. I officially lost 7 pounds this first week, woot!
Thanks for sharing. I read many of your blog posts, cool, your blog is very good.
